I make my kids fold them to army standards. JK! If I can't get a kid to help, I'll use the floor. The ball is tempting every time, so most often I'll take if off the bed, wash it, and put it right back on.
I fold, and tuck opposite corner into each other then flatten out so it's more rectangular. Then I fold. It still usually looks like I wadded it up and threw it in my cabinet though.
i attempt to fold it like i would a flat sheet. no dice.
I usually try to get someone to help me! This involves holding the stitched "corners" and flopping the stretchy part into the middle. Then attempting to fold it like a flat sheet. It's lumpy, but better than a ball.
