What death of a fictional character (any medium) really affected you at the time?

Shelby in Steel Magnolias.
Thomas Jay in My Girl.
Hillary in Beaches.
(Ashamed to admit) Jack in Titanic.

I second everything Les said, but would like to layer on some dead animals - Marley, zombie dog in I am Legend, etc.

When Marissa from OC died it was like losing one of my own friends.

And Leo from West Wing.

Same as Leslie, but I credit Beth in Little Women with teaching me how to bawl without restraint while immersed in fiction.

Beth in Little Women was just horrific both film and book.

When Dobby and Hedwig died in Harry Potter I felt emotionally raped.

When Diane Keaton dies in the Family Stone at the end I always cry....always.

Season finale of Brothers and Sisters when Rob Lowe dies (or does he? He has a pole in his head?)
