Nerdy? I went to a couple of band camps! It was college, but it had to be said.
I have a vague recollection of making one of those popsicle stick and yarn thingies at a girl scout camp, but if I slept there, I've blocked that memory.
My mom ran a couple of camps so I spent a good portion of my childhood at summer camp. Day camp and sleep-away camp. I also worked at a camp every summer in high school. And for one one-week period of time, I went to a swim camp.
i did musical theater camp and volleyball camp. before that i spent most of my summer days at my dance studio. they required us to take so many classes, it was almost like day camp. mom would drop me off in the morning and come get me at like 4.
i went to this camp that i thought was just summer camp, but was run by southern baptists and definitely had major religious undertones. one of the kids made this big deal over whether or not i had accepted jesus in to my heart. i had been baptized and had taken my first communion, but that don't hold water with no southern baptists. that kid freaked me out.
i also went to swim camp at texas, a prelude to the swim camp i call college.
One cool thing about heading to Califoria every summer is that they seemed to have a much larger selection of Garbage Pail Kids cards than they did in Columbia, MD.
i went to sports camp for two summers. it was very fun and we did everything from swim, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, capture the flag...very responsible options to keep kids active in the pre-major-kid-obesity problem era....ironically, at the end of each summer, the director would go to mcdonalds and bring back hundreds of hamburgers and cheeseburgers...it would be a contest of who could eat the most...mixed messages maybe?
Ashley and I went to camp when we were like, 13. it was called MINDSTRETCHERS. we took math class. and other academic classes that i SUFFERED through. we are nerds.
YMCA Camp Nellie Huckins! From age 9 to 20. There I perfected a few useless skills. I am an amazing hula hooper, potato sack racer and french braider. Without camp, I probably wouldnt know those things and then I wouldnt be able to hula hoop at the bars in Reno after a handful of vodka sodas.
Oh Cate...I probably went to that Southern Baptist camp every summer from 7-12 grades! And a week-long mission trip every summer too where I taught Vacation Bible School everywhere from Douglas, TX to Matamoros, Mexico.
Then in High School I also went to Journalism Camp.

Kalamazoo College basketball camp. I was the Anthony Mason of the camp, but more because I couldn't shoot and got away with fouling.
Church camp. Swim camp
I went to this camp out in California every summer....also a camp in the Poconos which was very, very much like Camp Krusty.

Did anyone go to math camp? Does MINDSTRETCHERS count as math camp?
religious camp
girls scouts day camp
Camp Fire camp.
Church camp (where I discovered the Red Hot Chili Peppers and kissing, thank you jesus)
YMCA camp.
and I finally begged hard enough to get my parents to send me to...
French camp.
Then I was a counselor all through college at a great sleepaway camp in Maine.
Vacation Bible School was kind of a camp, I guess. The songs are still burned into my brain. I was like Rod and Todd Flanders.

the only "camp" i went to was swim camp bc that sport robbed me of a childhood!
