i used to think vodka, but i was a dumb, uncultured, neanderthal college kid.

gin. otherwise it's not a martini.

wanna cheezz?

Not a martini drinker, but if I had to pick I'd take Gin. Seems classier, and vodka is the stuff I used to drink out of aquafina bottles in high school to get drunk

vodka. anything less than uber-premium gin tastes like rust.

I think John put his finger on an important factor. My high school liquor was gin, so vodka seems classier to me.

K8's got it right--Vodka. If I wanted to drink Pine Sol, I'd go get it at the grocery store.

Vodka - gin makes me mean.

Vodka. I remember doing shots of straight gin from a shot glass that looked like a mini beer stein years ago and thinking why do juniper berries taste like garbage..?

A martini is made with gin, the driest of dry vermouths, and an olive. Period. Nothing more, nothing less.

The substitution of vodka, the addition of olive juice, or any of the trillions of other ingredients (really, "chocolate martini"?), shaken and strained into a martini glass are nothing more than lib-ortions. I'll let you figure that one out.

But personally, I think they all suck. Gimme a well made Manhattan any day.

Not really a martini drinker so much either, but gin is disgusting, so I'd have to default to vodka, even though I can't drink that stuff anymore (near death hangover experience).

both. gin has more flavor. you guys are drinking the wrong gin if you don't appreciate the flavor and smell of a good quality gin. however, i do like a nice grey goose martini now and then.

Scottie is absolutely 2/3 right (coincidentally the amount of gin in the properly made martini).

Vodka...Gin is a truth serum!

Leslie, were you thinking of me when you asked this question?

Vodka of course!

To be exact: Hanger 1, up with olives; dry is the way I like mine.

When Hanger 1 is not available, I’ll go for Belvedere, and then Ketel One if all else fails. If these three aren’t available I drink something else.

So for all of you out there who were thinking… “What should I get Aimee for Hanukah this year?” One of the three above will put you in good standing with me.

Kettle One extra dirty with extra olives = the perfect dirty mart

I do not like gin but strange enough, had a gin martini at camp where the gin was soaked in a peach tea bag....it was amazing...or maybe I was already drunk...and don't ask why i was drinking a martini at camp.

Yes please. And make it dirty.

this conversation is making me feel drunk

my paternal grandparents are/were devoted martini drinkers. always gin - and they would just think about adding vermouth.

I'm torn. Personally I like Gin. However, my hero James Bond likes vodka martinis. "I'll take a Jesper, shaken not stirred".

Gin, up, twist.
