People. It is Starbucks. The menu changes seasonally and you've been in line with your family for four minutes. Couldn't you have decided what you want before now? Some of us just want to get our overpriced drip coffee so our brains function. And yes, I'm wearing headphones, that means I'm commuting and have to get to work. Hurry up.
Tourists should have their own hours that they are allowed into the city. They would not be allowed to begin coming into DC until 10am and would have to leave completely by 4pm.... this rule would only be stretched IF they had reservations at a restaurant or entertainment venue that evening and would only be allowed to be at that establishment for the duration of their reservation
...Metro escalators. How hard is it to take a second and become familiar with your surroundings? Stand right, walk left. Even the friendly "Excuse me, is that your bag?" lady on the PA in the stations says "You'll notice that most people stand on the right." Once you get to the top/bottom, KEEP MOVING. And if I see another effing stroller on an escalator, I'm going to punch the baby inside.
i agree with Benji's concept, but think they should have their own hours on the metro. i don't care if they want to roam about while i'm chained to my desk from 9 am until 7 or 8 or 9pm. but they better not be on the metro during rush hour in the morning complaining about how crowded the train is. guess why its extra crowded today, tourists? because you had to get out and about at 8:30 in the morning while the entire metro region is trying to get to work. no where you have to be is that important. the lincoln memorial will still be there at 10 am.
I should add that I have no problem helping out a tourist if they look lost, or if they ask...makes me feel like a local. But seriously, it's like being in a foreign country...we have a certain way we do things here. If you don't at least make an attempt to meet us halfway, I got no sympathy.
One more thing for the Mall tourists: that big building at one end of the Mall with the big gorgeous dome on it? Yeah, that's not the White House. Stop shouting to your little fat heathen children that it is. You would think that you would know that, being that you're all wrapped up in that American Flag Print Polo shirt spouting off about how Obama is a Arab Muslim Hitler Foreigner.
Pedestrian walkways that pass over where the real people need to walk and drive and bike. I HATE trying to make a right turn in my car when there are hoardes of them in the crosswalk.

jerks!
Before I could think twice: branch of law enforcement. Handing out tickets, checking for visitor-authorization papers, prodding, tazing, etc.
Probably not a very civil answer, though.
