Do you say hello (or good morning) to strangers?

I say hello to everyone who makes eye contact with me when I'm running. And I find that I say hello to people in general if they're drinking coffee or walking a dog.

I've never had anyone reply with an expletive before.

I say good morning to the bus driver, who usually grunts. Other than that, I am a frosty New Englander.

I'm a Leslie-like New Englander. I say if I make eye contact.

I say hi to anyone I may pass on my street, my bus driver and the folks at the bus stop. Once I get off the bus, there are too many people.

This is an interesting question. I find myself to be a highly friendly person, but I almost never say hi to strangers on the street. Especially not in DC. If they make longer eye contact I'll do a half smile and nod. However, I WILL initiate a hello to anyone within about 30 feet of my condo building, which for some reason makes sense to me as a neighbor-trust thing. Also, I'm more likely to smile and nod at joggers and dogwalkers.
