Is it acceptable for someone you interviewed to indicate they know you as a "friend" on LinkedIn?

no?

I don't see why not. I'd assume who is interviewing me would google, fb, and linkedin search me, so I might as well state it.

Are you now co-workers? Is the person still seeking a job? What are the other contact designations? Friend is probably too casual, Colleague too presumptuous, maybe Acquaintance? Probably best to leave it alone.

yeah, no.

linked in, more than facebook, implies an ACTUAL connection - either professional or friend. you should actually know the person before you say you are a connection.

how does LinkedIn work? is it like Facebook where you have to accept friend requests? If that's the case, I think it would be ok, because supposedly the interviewer has taken active steps to make a connection with this person.

"I read all about you on LinkedIn" sounds creepy though.

Like all interview answers though, I think it all depends on if you can make this fact relevant to how you would perform in the job.

I think this has more to do with the lack of options for how you know the person. You HAVE to pick one and if you aren't a colleague or classmate or something, that is weirder than just saying oh we're "friends."
