Totally depends on what kind of location I'm in. I'll take a Minneapolis cold winter over a DC cold winter any day -- the snow plows are efficient and you barely have to go outside. If you're in a place that's adapted to those extreme temperatures, it's not bad. The problem comes when you are in a place that has extreme temperatures, yet you still have to be outside all the time.
I think a really hot summer is much easier to deal with than a really cold winter. Cold winters usually include snow, and snow is just a pain in the ass when it's all over the street and sidewalk (ok on mountains).
If I have to put a ton of clothes on to keep warm, I end up sweating anyway. So I vote hot summer every time.
cold winter. i like any excuse to buy and wear as many pieces of clothing as possible. there is nothing wrong with stocking up on clothes and boots! and i love down comforters at night... there are 3 on my bed.
hmm hot summer, can hang washing out, can sun bath and catch a tan, have bbq's, have fun in a swimming pool, have ice creams, go 2 beach, beer gardens with family and friends and wear fancy bright clothes, shorts & flip flops etc... and can use a fan & nice cool water to cool you down B) a cold winter can be icey, if your boiler broke (like mine has) and its 9 degrees or colder which i am freezing then its horrible, hard to get warm and stay warm, don't wanna go out it's too cold and can't do half the stuff you can in a hot summer.

really cold winter. all summer all i've done is dream of moving back north.
After spending early January in North Dakota this year, I can say without hesitation that a hot summer is much much less awful.

Really hot summer. You can always take clothes off. Am I right Janice?
Really cold winter, all the way. You can always put more clothes on.
Besides, extreme cold just makes me sleepy and lethargic ... extreme heat just makes me angry.
