Did Stephen Strasburg live up to the hype? And on a scale from 1-10 (1 being not at all and 10 being a crapload) how much do you care?

I think he did. 14 strikeouts in a major league debut is pretty impressive. I think I would gauge my caring at about a 7.

He was an 11. I've honestly never seen anything like it. He struck out 14 batters, including the last seven he faced. He retired nearly, if not every single batter after giving up his first MLB home run. His command is ungodly, his power is unmatched. I don't care that it was against the Pirates, it was an absolutely masterful performance. Here's the kicker...zero walks! 7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 14 K, W, and it only took him 94 pitches to do it. He is not human, and thank god he's pitching here :)

14 Ks is pretty awesome. I care 0 amount.

I think from a Washington perspective, yes because he represents the hope that they will be divisional contenders either this year or the coming years.

That said, I think 14 strike outs against the one of the WORST teams in baseball in recent years isn't all that impressive.

My caring = 3

i have no idea what you are talking about but i see a picture of a man throwing a baseball so i can make an educated guess. i do not care.

Who knew that Janice would be such an insightful baseball commentator? I agree with K8. I'd care if he was (how does Scottie put it? oh yes) a chowdahead from Boston.

I think 14k's would have to rate a 10 for a rookie debut, especially given how much a crapshoot the baseball draft is.

I haven't seen a newbie pitcher with such an impressive performance since Kerry Woods...oh shit, the Nats are screwed. Wait, I'm being paranoid...it's not like Strasburg has the same manager as Woods...oh oops

I didn't really care about his debut, but I found myself watching him pitch regardless.

14 strikeouts is pretty damn good.

Well, he lived up to the hype for one game. That doesn't mean he'll live up to the hype this week or month or season.

That said, the stands were packed and everyone looked so happy. Which is good for DC.

Caring level - 3

The only reason I knew anything about it is that everyone was super late for bocce. So I was kinda pissed at Strasburg. But I'm glad he lived up to the hype, and that our fancy new stadium isn't going to waste. Caring level=4

jesus indeed - he set a franchise record for K's in his debut - that's unreal. he also has a rivera like cut-fastball, he STRUCK OUT THE SIDE 3 TIMES, and he struck out their entire lineup.

he also got better - and his speed got faster as the game went on without major changes in his mechanics. these are all really good signs of a phenomenally talented young pitcher - the only question is longevity; which, unfortunately is the ONLY question for a starting pitcher after talent and ability to withstand pressure.

caring - 10. i did a year of a quarter season and had trouble finishing it out b/c we lost over a hundred games that year. with something like this to watch - i'll reup.

Lived up to the hype for reasons mentioned above.

Older of two baseball fanatic sons snagged Strasburg for his fantasy team in March. Have been hearing about him for months. So, care = high

What Scottie said, except he's the slowest runner I've ever seen (but then I heard there was a knee issue). I care about 7, but wish he were pitching for the Cards or Yankees.

And I wish John hadn't brought up Kerry Woods.

The man is a pitching gawd. First MLB game with no walks, 14Ks, and a 95 mph fast ball is amazing. This guys like 14- can you imagine how amazing he is going to be in a couple years? (PS- im calling it now, the nats will fuck up and trade him).

And yes, it was only against the Pirates, who suck- but NEWS FLASH the Nats also suck pretty hard! Strasburg and Harper could be the dream team to make it happen. My caring level is 147.

I care so much that I came back to QOTD at the end of the day to see what everyone thought!
