Did your parents have a sex talk with you? If so, how old were you and how awkward was it?

Yep, or at least dad tried to. I was 16 and had already had sex, so I cut him off and told him I already knew.

I was 10 and Magic Johnson has just been diagnosed with HIV. Little did my parents know I already knew what sex was and would secretly listen to "Let's talk about sex" on my walkman.

they tried a couple of times, but i saw it coming and quickly and purposefully changed the subject to things like kittens and puppies.

Well, "Sex talk" or the "Birds and the Bees" talk

My mom was so worried I'd learn about sex on bus ride to school, she told me pretty much everything the morning before my first day of Kindergarten.

I proceeded to get on the bus and tell everyone.

My dad is a Health Teacher, and he made me watch the videos before he'd show them to the class, so I think by the time I was ready for sex nobody needed to talk to me about it.

Yes, I instigated it when I was 6 or 7 years old when I asked where babies come from. My parents started their response with "when a man and a woman love each other very much..." and filled in the details. I was horrified! I told them that it was gross.

I think I was 10? It was right before I went into middle school, which was also my first year in public school. Knowing my mother, it was probably no coincidence.

Never really had the sex talk. My parents trusted me.

So, when I was in 3rd grade, my mom was talking to some other mom of a kid in my class one day in front of me and made the comment that this particular girl in my class was probably the type to end up pregnant by 16. I, of course, repeated this comment to several girls in my class. Then I got yelled at by the teacher because it got back to the girl we were talking about and then that girl's mom called my mom. So then my mom yelled at me (even though the whole thing was totally her fault) and bluntly told me the basic mechanics in a way that would gross me out and prevent me from repeating such comments ever again. After hearing her version, I decided sex was so gross I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and I apologized to the girl the next day.

My parents tried when I was 16 or so. By that time, I had already learned what it was from tv, radio, school yard talk etc. so I told them it was unnecessary.

In grade 5, but my mum had to make my dad do and he was very uncomfortable with it. But two girls in my class had explained the whole thing to me two year previously.
Here is a question - what was more traumatic learning about sex or learning about the massive Santa Claus conspiracy? I would say it was the latter because it had immediate consequences....

I think i was in 5th or 6th grade right before we had sex ed in school. My mom gave me a copy of "Our Bodies, Ourselves". My best friend and I would laugh at the cartoons and the slang words for the peni and vajaja.

nope. cate thinks they were tired of parenting by then, but i think it's likely they knew i didn't need it. i mean, 6 year old me did approach one of cate's friends and asked him when we were going to "get naked" because "how else were we going to get to know each other". public school, folks!
