Total stunt. It's really disturbing.

I haven't followed that much (ie didn't see any interviews) but I don't think this is a media stunt.

That's not to say these parents aren't fucking insane. Have you all seen the youtube video they made with their kids called Not Pussified?

Yeah, not a typo at all. That shit exists, but seriously...all kids are best raised by a mommy and daddy. Totally. That's true in every case.

Hoax.

the only reason i think it was mostly the kid being an idiot is that i don't know that these crazy storm chasing bastards would spend all this time building this stupid weather balloon just to let it fly away and be beaten to death by rescuers trying to get the helium out. that said, it doesn't sound like there really was much to the balloon, so it could still be a hoax. in either case, the kid or the family should have to pay the government back for the costs incurred by rescue teams.

Everything cries hoax...

Even the balloon that is eerily similar to the ship in Flight of the Navigator!

I hate his parents.
I hate their parents.
I hate the media.
I hate balloons.
I hate Flight of the Navigator.
I hate the Metrodome (also similar in appearance to the balloon).
I hate the Red Sox.

total stunt. didn't the kid say he did it for 'the show' or something like that?

this is also why i don't trust anyone who goes on a reality tv show.

I think he was on the balloon, then abducted by aliens, the teleported to the attic.

I think someone needs to call child Protective Services because clearly his parents are ridiculous. Hoax.

I heart Flight of the Navigator! & Batteries Not Included! I loved those movies when I was a kid... a normal kid whose parents weren't on reality TV.

hoax. "we did this for the show" = hoax.

I thought it was a hoax until the alien tried to get out of him on the Today Show this morning. (my favorite part is when the producer laughs out loud at the kid after puke #1).

Don't know, but how would you like to have neighbours who build balloons in their back yard?
