What's worse: interns or tourists?

Tourists! Interns eventually learn.

I live in Capitol Hill, so I get the best of both worlds. But at least interns walk quickly and don't stand around sidewalks looking confused and blocking my way.

Tourists bring their spending money to DC, interns bring their herpes.

I protest this DC-centric question. QOTDs should represent residents of all cities.

tourists! b/c they learned to get off at CP to go to the zoo AND they all congregate in my office builidng when it rains and when they're hungry. sucks working right off the mall.

mike is upset b/c no one willingly goes to philly as a tourist or intern.

This one is hard for me to answer, because I don't like either. A month ago I would have said tourist, but the new band of interns started hitting the metro this week and they are annoying. They flock in bunches, talk loudly on the metro and name drop in an effort to impress. Thank you apple for inventing the nano!

Tourists. The other day I heard one call Ballston "lovely."

tourists are worse. interns i can mostly avoid by not frequenting establishments on the hill. tourists are EVERYWHERE in their sensible shoes and sunglasses on a chain around their necks and with their lack of understanding that some places aren't good places to stop and stand. plus, dc nicely put all those people in bright yellow shirts out on the streets to attract the tourists who have questions, and yet these people still talk to me. infuriating.

Interns cause me more sustained grief that tourists. We have had some fabulous interns, but we've also had some dreadful ones. They seem to be rather entitled which is awful and annoying. They don't get that if I ask them to do something, its because I'm at workload capacity. And when they aren't there to help, I do the task they find so terribly disdainful. Sigh...

Interns. Tourists leave sooner, and their obnoxiousness is more incidental than interns'.

From gchat on 6/4, in response to Beenu's chattus, which posed this same question:

me: the answer to your question is yes

beenu: hah
i'm going w/ tourists b/c they flock to my building to eat and take shelter when it rains

me: yeah...and interns could be hot. tourists are never hot

beenu: hahaha
can't compete w/ that answer

me: why thank you :)

Tourists hands down. They just get in your way. Constantly. And make you miss your metro.

Atlast interns have a purpose...speaking of, I need some coffee. Stat.

Tourists . . . stop getting in my way when I'm on my bike, learn to walk to the right instead of a giant gaggle, and learn to read a map and stop asking me where sh*t is!!

I almost ran over 5 tourists last night by Arlington Cemetery because "one your left" confused them so they just stopped and looked around like someone in the sky said it. Then they asked me where the "statue of the soldiers" is? Could you be any more vague?

Definitely tourists. I can always fire interns

Tourists have a shorter half-life than interns. Interns are here, invading your once favorite bar while fully displaying how inept & annoying they can be, for months instead of days.

& at least the tourists wear funny outfits you can clown on - the interns are all wearing the standard DC uniform suit in grey or navy.

I honestly don't know the answer to this question. I think I may have a bigger problem with interns, especially those on the Hill. They crowd into bars and wear pearls oddly paired with completely inappropriate clothes (and fabrics) for the office.

I don't mind helping a lost-looking tourist on the street with a confused face and an upside down map. Granted they probably don't want help from me because I still get lost trying to get home.

That being said, I hate them both when I am late, when the bus or metro is crowded or when I am in a salty mood.

Additionally, I hate anyone who stands on the wrong side of the metro escalator, again, especially when I am late.

Oh! I almost forgot, if the tourists have baby strollers and/or cars with Virginia plates all games are off - they are the worst.

Tourists. Especially at the Woodley Park/Adams Morgan metro.

"I went to DC and they have the biggest escalator I have ever seen! Look, I took pictures!!!"

Tourists. I can't stand the double strollers, cameras and kids wearing roller skate shoes. Fortunately, there aren't many in Columbia Heights during the summer without a DC chaperone.

Leslie said...

Haha! They *do* love taking escalator pictures.

Come on! It's tourists by far. At least interns can figure out how to walk fast, and stay on the move. Tourists decided they need to look at their $20, 10x26, sightseeing maps with all 20 of the people in their party. This eventually causes me to get to the bar later than planned, and that makes Brian very upset.
