Probably flowers, but I highly recommend a gift certificate to a spa or salon near where she lives.

a nice card and the privilege of buying me stuff and taking me out for meals because that's what parents like to do when they come to town. but i did get her a bunch of stuff on my trip, so that helps.

I usually get her a gift certificate to her favorite online store. I don't try to buy my mom stuff anymore because I doubt she would want to wear a black turtleneck or a giant watch.

my mom asks for a hug and a kiss every year, so i comply.

I'm sending her flowers and I haven't figured out the other part yet. Probably a gift card to the spa she likes or something.

My mother doesn't like to cook anymore when she gets home form work so i bought her 3gourmet dinners prepped by a chef in our town. check with your local catering company to see if they do this. all she has to do is call ahead and pick them up when she wants them!

To give Andrew another idea: My mom likes daisies. So one year I got her monthly delivery of daisies. It cost more than I usually spend but I thought it was a cool gift.

Ouch, Mr. Mayor. Very ouch. Don't you have a financial crisis to "solve"?

Thanks for the suggestions
