Do you think it's socially acceptable to bump other cars while parallel parking?

The "city bump"? Totally.

Yes but only if you do so gently. Now if you smack the cars that's not kosher.

A light tap is acceptable. We've all been there.

yes, especially if it's a tight spot. i won't do it to really shiny expensive cars, though. but if your car looks like mine, it's getting a gentle bump.

totes.

esp if the car has a university of michigan sticker/license plate.

no. This is why I am terrified of parallel parking.

I feel like if I gave myself permission to do it, then I'd be bumping people left and right, and that ain't cool.

Yes! It's just a nudge, to let the other car know that your car is there. Gentle should be the operative word.

I don't recommend doing it on purpose, but if you truly believe that you're going to live in an urban setting where you have to parallel park and you're not going to get bumped from time to time, then you're a complete moron. I've done it (again, not on purpose), and I've had it done to me. No paint swap, no foul. Just one of those necessary evils that comes with city life. Like having to deal with Red Sox fans.
