Should professional athletes participate in the Olympics?

NO! The call made by the head of the IOC at the end of the Olympics is "I call upon the youth of the world to assemble in xxx city in four years time...."

The Olympics should retain its amateur status. There are a hand full of sports where professionals can compete, i.e. tennis, basketball, hockey, soccer.

sports are so competitive that to succeed at the highest levels of competition, you have to be a full time athlete. and to eat, you have to get paid.

Who suggested this question? Brett? Tim? Someone's trying to prod me so I'll go on a rant again on this subject. Let's just say I hope the U.S. B-ball team loses hard to some small, insignificant country like the Galapogas Islands.
