What are your favorite things to do (touristy and/or not) when your family comes to visit?

Gosh, it's been so long since family has visited. I like to take them out to dinner at some cool, hip, delicious place.

I like to show them the joys of America. I take them to Dupont Circle where I point at homeless people who offer us chapstick, then we drive out to Target in Virginia and we see Americans performing cultural rights; consuming. Then for dinner we go to Ihop and remark on how obese people can be, laughing at their fat mullets! Cherie always enjoys her waffles! Last but by no means least I take them to The White House to show them where all the bigoted, idiotic decisions can be made. Then they leave depressed that the American Dream was all a big LIE.

I try to be away when my family visit but I leave a good list of things for them to do and a lifesize cardboard cut out me handy for kodak moments, the list includes:

Brunch at Logan Tavern
Shopping at Georgetown-buying a picnic at Dean & Deluca. Then a walk on the mall.
Then I suggest they go for dinner at Tabaq which has great views over the city.

My mom's never been to DC, so when she comes out this fall, she wants to see all the monuments and stuff...I'm more than happy to oblige her, since I do that stuff a lot anyway. Not sure how she's gonna handle all that walking though...

Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, breakfast at the Tastee Diner in Bethesda, Antique shopping and eating at AKA Frisco's in Frederick.
So basically, we get out of town when my family comes to visit!

I'll show Cherie my waffles, Tony.

Darlings, I am the only tourist attraction your family will want to ride, if you catch my drift. Am I right, ladies?

Find excuses to do the things I never or rarely actually do as a resident. Also, go out to eat lots and visit places you need a car to access. And if its my brother/sisters - drink.

When it is family that will be treating me to a nice meal, I always go to the North End.

If it is family that I will be treating, I take them to this great sushi bar in Porter Square or to Anna's. Yeah, that's right, I am a cheapskate.

Yes, Ben, you are a cheapskate.

We usually do brunch, maybe catch a ballgame, drive around the monuments at night, practice "stand on the right, walk on the left," try to get dad to eat food other than Italian.
