Is it a good idea for girls to play in co-ed football leagues that are full contact?

Inspired by today's random video / read of the day from The Washington Post, "Sam Gordon, 9-year-old girl, is already a football star" by Cindy Boren.

I think her story is pretty cool. I think little girls should be able to do anything that little boys can do. I am interested in what people think about kids (of any gender) playing full contact football.

First, I'd like her on my fantasy team with those stats.

If my hypothetical daughter wanted to be a tough ass kicker, I'd keep her away from football. She'll never get to play with people her size. Same if I had a smaller boy. Basically my kid would have to be bigger for their age for me to consider, and for a girl that means not being bigger for a girl but bigger for a kid.

Instead, I'd point her to something like MMA. There they at least size up by weight. That's also a sport that takes injuries more seriously.

I think as a punter or kicker, yes. But I am merely basing that as a matter of size. However, if she can take the hits and hard knocks, she should do whatever she wants to do.

Plus Rudy Huxtable did it as a kid.
