I have a soft spot for Star Wars because it was one of the movies my extended family would put on to entertain the kids while the adults would get blotto and have a crab feast.
No, look: if you enjoy philosophically empoverished fantasy, messianic Christian overtones, mild racism, teddy bears, and borrowed Kurosawa plots, you'll love Star Wars. You should try Hidden Fortress (1958), since it's episode IV, all the way down to the side-to-side scene-transition wipes and comedic tall&skinny / short&fat duo. But nobody deserves to have their beloved childhood epic ruined like money-bags Lucas did.
I'm going to go with Star Trek. If Star Wars 1-3 were not created, I probably would have said Star Wars, but those movies have tainted (teehee) the series. Besides, I watched a ton of Star Trek: Next Generation growing up ...and still sometimes to.

Star Wars - better spin offs (Clone Wars, etc), and its low points are way less embarrassing than the low points for Trekkies.
