In honor of John Hughes life ... What is your favorite John Hughes movie?

Ferris Bueller's Day Off totally changed my life...it was officially the first movie I memorized, thus starting me on a path of destruction, making me want to watch, memorize, and incessantly quote movies to this day. I know I'm not the only guy with this problem.

Sixteen Candles, on the other hand...probably funnier than FBDO, and to me, definitely funnier than The Breakfast Club. Best performances by Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall, completely underrated performance by Michael Schoeffling (Jake Ryan), and insane cameos by Jami Gertz, and the Cusacks.

Tough one...it's a toss up.

Now, let's hear all the girls reasons why Pretty in Pink was better (even though it was NOT directed by John Hughes).

Scott, PIP was written by John Hughes.

I liked them all. I mean, "he defined the generation."

But I guess if I had to pick, I'd say Home Alone.

Funny tidbit: while filming Planes, Trains, and Automobiles in Woodstock, IL, John Hughes fell in love with McHenry County. He bought some property and built a hill on it so he could make his house the highest point in the county. Oh that John. What'll he think of next?

Apparently nothing... too soon?

I want to show some love for Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

A teacher in high school said it was the funniest holiday movie she'd ever seen. I rented it for my family having know clue what it was about. One of the biggest surprises I've had watching a movie. It was very funny, and has one of the best uses of "fuck" I've ever seen in a film.

Other than 16 Candles and Breakfast Club, I really like Mr. Mom. And, of course, Home Alone 4.

Pretty in Pink. I am still in love for Duckie and am willing to overlook his terrible mid-2000 career choices.

It's always been a toss up between 16 Candles & Breakfast Club for me, but I didn't even realize Planes, Trains, & Automobiles was on the list. Probably still 16 Candles tho.

Have to go with Ferris Bueller's Day Off. To the extent that I was ever a slacker or a bad kid, I owe it to Ferris.

Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I love them so much that I'll watch them on tv, even though they usually edit out the funniest parts.

I'm going to have to go with Breakfast Club.

he wrote and produced The Great Outdoors and I loved that movie as a kid.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is the most enjoyable now that I am a grown up.

After the Breakfast Club, I have to give my nod to Uncle Buck!

Hands down The Breakfast Club because it has such a message.

Close seconds = Ferris Bueller's Day Off, St. Elmo's Fire and Home Alone.

I loved them all, especially Sixteen Candles & Ferris.

I just came about this blog from a Vanity Fair article about JH that I thought I would share:

Rob: So noted. I like the cut of your jib, and am interested in subscribing to your newsletter...unless it's about taking another month off from alcohol. Ludicrous!!!

Cate: I always forget about The Great Outdoors...forgot how effing funny that one is (also not directed, but if Rob's willing to concede that writing's enough, so am I).

Beenu: My personal favorite character is definitely Ferris. He and Chris Knight from Real Genius are still my heroes to this day.

- Some Kind of Wonderful
- Dennis the Menace
- Christmas Vacation
- Mr Mom
- Weird Science
