My first dance was in 6th grade too. We also had daytime dances at hillside jr high (go hjh!) with laser lights and fog machines but the kids at st. joe's had dances at night. they were cooler than us public school kids. and their gym was built in, like, the 1200s so it was dark and creepy.
first dance was in 6th grade. i thought it was the absolute coolest thing i'd ever done. i don't think we had dances during the day, but i can't really remember...perhaps i blocked them out.
6th grade and it was during the day. It was the first and only time guys asked me to dance (til HS) and of course they were the kids that ended up expelled like a year later.
6th grade during the day when i lived in the lou (aka the burbs of st. louis). it was awful b/c it was a sock hop where guys dressed at greasers and girls dressed in poodle skirts. i had just moved there a month before and had no clue that they actually dressed like that so i was the only one in normal clothes. totes akward - but to me, they all looked stupid.
real school dances at night started in 7th grade (also in the lou) and they were pretty awesome. the huge atrium would turn into a club w/ the DJ, lights, fog machines, etc. and there was even a coat check! can you tell i went to a snobby school district?
My first dance was a halloween dance party in elementary school. I think I was maybe in 4th? grade. My parents were chaperones--my dad went as a scarecrow and wore overalls and I was hella embarrassed. It was def. at night and there was a spoooooky hayride. Not much dancing though--I grew up in the sticks.
so, I am a loser and my first dance was in 9th grade (the Catholic schools I went to through jr. high were too small for dances...we're talking 8 people in my 8th grade class). I have never been to a dance in the day.
The parents hosted a non-school sponsored dance for us at the local skating rink in 8th grade and we all dressed in formals (it's Texas, what can I say?).
Then the last day of 8th grade the school had a dance during the afternoon in the cafeteria and we all just wore our Sunday best.
CyFair ISD was clearly better than Klein because we had a night-time Christmas dance in Jr. High. No skating rinks for us. I think 6th graders could go, but maybe it was only 7th and 8th grade.

6th grade for me too. And I don't remember ever having them during the day. What was the reasoning for the day dance?
Mine was 6th grade too, but never during the day I'm going to rock it out as a chaperone at our school dance today. At 3:30. Pajama theme.
I'm ready to learn some new dances in my slippers. The Electric Slide is SOOOO uncool now.
6th grade for me too. One time I chaperoned a junior high dance that started at 5. Does that count? The sun was still up.
6th Grade as well. Apparently North Cumberland Middle School After Dark means 2:30 pm
