The worst job I ever had was when I was doing random temp work after college in my hometown where a major cellphone company is based. The company was based at this huge complex out of town and so had shuttle buses running to and from town. My job for five days was to stand on the bus and go upto people telling them they could get bus times via text message. Problem was I wasnt wearing any uniform or anything so I looked like a huge fool, sitting on the bus patting people on the back telling them my spiel:"Did you know you can recieve text messages on your phone about bus times?" It was like I was some wierd stalker. People cursed at me, told me to leave them alone so for five days 9-5 I sat alone riding the buses. I was so bored I wanted to die.I had no signatures on my list and so got fired.
Oh lord, I've had some pretty crappy/weird ones. 1. Things Remembered, yes that engraving store in the mall 2. Waitress (enough said) 3. Measuring paper as it expands in humidity (as boring as you think) 4. Purchasing agent for 7 medical centers. As a temp. I also did shipments too (and could order drugs). 5. Secretary - quit within a month as one boss made me walk all the way back to his office after a piece of mail fell off his desk. 6. Subsequent job, boss grabbed my ass 7. GW bookstore on a broken foot
This is all making my new job look even more awesome than it already is!
I spent exactly one day working for a party supply store delivering tables, chairs, and tents to people's houses. Basically just heavy lifting all day. It took me about 3 days before I could move again.
The one funny story out of that day was that we delivered a tent to this guy's house that we were supposed to set up. The guy who owned the store had no freaking clue how to put the tent together even though he has been doing this job for like 15 years. I figured it out in about 3 seconds, but he wouldn't listen to me. Eventually he gave up, and I had it up in no time. Glad that Duke edumacation came in handy for something!
pre college degree: TJ Maxx, UNH Linen Truck Drive
post college degree: worked in a dojo at a tae kwon do studio while looking for work in nyc, macy's men's dept xmas season.... oh and my career right now pretty much blows.
Seasonal employee at Bath & Body Works, Holiday 1998. Awful. Awful. Awful. "Leslie, your sales quota today is 75 scrubby buddies." Do you know what a scrubby buddy is? A stuffed animal you're supposed to use like a wash cloth or a loofah. Super creepy. I never made my quota and I was not asked back after the new year.
My second least favorite job was at a seafood restaurant in Portsmouth, NH my senior year in college. I was the WORST waitress. My first table ever - red wine, Gucci purse... awesome, not awesome.
Right after I graduated, I was a hostess for a new home builder - which meant I sat in a trailer/model home and waited for and then helped prospective home buyers. It was super low stress and I got to screw around on the internet/read all day. But it was also super boring. And once I had to sit in a trailer w/ no heat during an ice storm.
My actual job wasn't terrible, but I didn't enjoy sending my students to PE when the teacher was either passed out in his office while the kids ran around killing one another or he was making some EXTREMELY inappropriate comment as I tried not to breathe out of fear I would get wasted from smelling his breath.
The best part was when I taught his son. Then I had the privilege of interacting with him on a daily basis.
Totally a tie between retail at Abercrombie and Fitch and waitressing at Yokens thar she blows seafood restaurant... serving haddock au gratin and liver and onions to old ladies on ventilators who gave $0.67 tips and pinched my cheeks.
Sara's answer reminded me of my first post-college job in Hawaii. I literally took the first job I could find. Working the overnight shift at the Nu'uanu YMCA in Honolulu for all of the people who lived at the Y. Half the rooms had bedbugs. It was gross, scary, sad and awful. But now, seven years later it's a little bit funny.
I was a guest judge on America's Next Top Model. I mean seriously. Listening to Tyra talk about her experiences as a big-foreheaded model? Ew. Worst Job Ever.
I'm coming to this a day late, but I totally worked the Bath & Body Work Holiday 98 season too! It was awful and I only lasted 3 days. Hangover headaches are nothing compared to too-much-fruity-scent headaches. How creepy was that training video they made you watch with "Anne," the model B&BW employee who only wears khakis?!

i had to measure the dimensions of comic strips. some are 6.5" x 2", some are 6" X 1.7". it makes a difference in the world.
