Definitely like toast. If you eat a properly prepared bagel (ie: slathered in enough cream cheese to give John Madden a coronary) like a sandwich, you'll experience the squish and ooze effect, and you'll have to end up licking the excess off the sides of the bagel in order to avoid getting it all over you. With separate halves, you're golden. It's the American way.
I've always wanted to be Jewish so I'm with Justin-like a sandwich-especially if it is filled with yummy sandwich stuff-which I guess would make it a sandwich. As for this "get more topping" train of thought I like to put a lot in my bagel-and if i dont have enough cream cheese I just dip my fingers in it and smear it on my face...then smile.
If it were possible to squish it without losing all the cream cheese I might consider the sandwich way, but since you can't, like toast is the only way
all depends on the topping... i like to have it cut in half and then eat like sandwich so that i get 4 different pieces.. i tend to eat really fast so this paces me.
now if there is turkey, lett, tomato involved, i will cut in half and eat like a regular sammie.
there's nothing like an everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese..amazing. i almost got one this morning but got a fruit cup instead.. WAH!!!!!
If I have time to sit and eat my bagel then separate like toast. If I do not then putting the halves together like a sandwich is more convenient to eating it while on the move.

What a perfect question! Wednesday is bagel day at work.
I prefer separate. I think I can taste more butter that way.
i prefer a bagel on a garbage plate.

I eat it like toast. I agree with Erin that you can definitely get more that way.

toast way. Unless, of course, it's a bagel sandwich
I’m all about the “Hot & Crusty” salt bagel with white fish salad.

if it has cream cheese, then definately cut in half, that way you can put more cream cheese on each half....mmmmm, now i am hungry.
it tastes soooooo much better like a sandwich
Always like a sandwich. That's how you respect the nature of a bagel-- a new yorker
