When it comes to staying friends with an ex, is one gender better at this than another?

nobody likes and asshole, and asshole-ness is not gender specific. I think it's more about personality type than gender.

No. Everyone sucks at this. Everyone. Yes, you do too.

I'll say men are much better than women at this. Much better.

Let me explain this one more. I take this to men when a couple decides to make an attempt at being friends, so this excludes a good number of really bad relationships.

In general I think men are better at this because they tend to forget shit. Little details and fights from their past relationship fade away. Women have better memories on this, might bring up some bad shit, get even more mad b.c. the dude forgot about that, and then enters awkwardness.

i think in general being friends with an ex is a bad idea. unless you dated when you were like 12 and now you are 67.

i think it depends on the individual circumstance more than gender. i'm friendly with a few of the few exes i have. and even though i am an evil woman, i manage not to hold grudges, john!

I've ended up with great, really close friends who were exes... I guess I don't consider them exes anymore. I just figure if you liked someone enough to date them in the first place, what you liked is still there, so you can appreciate it from a friend perspective. Don't know if this is gender specific, but the Radio Lab guys seem to think it is. They had a segment talking about how, at least chemically, anger fades faster in men than in women. I didn't pay close enough attention to remember why...

I don't think it's gender specific. I talk to some exes from time to time, but I'm not friends with them or enemies. So, I guess I don't stay friends...just acquainted.
