Today's question has three parts. Do you refrigerate your... bread? fruit? peanut butter?

I do not refrigerate my bread. I do refrigerate grapes, melons, berries and apples but not citrus and never bananas. I do not refrigerate peanut butter.

Bread: No, but it might make it last longer
Fruit: Hardly ever (grapes and stuff, yes)
Peanut butter: Nope, makes it too tough to spread

Of course, in college, back in the fraternity house days, my roommate and I had to refrigerate everything to keep the mice from getting to it. Unfortunately, I'm not kidding.

I freeze bread, I'm sure if I actively bought fruit I'd refrigerate it. Haven't had peanut butter since I was in the 1st grade. It was a banned substance in my house as my Dad liked to eat it straight outta the jar and Mom would have none of that.

i freeze my english muffins for the same reason as kathryn...i don't eat them fast enough...otherwise i don't really buy bread, which is unfortunate because i love it. i refridgerate some fruit, but not bananas or apples. i do not refridgerate peanut butter, but i used to live with someone who did, and it was frustrating because it would spread like a glue stick on tissue paper...

we refrigerate nearly everything. each shelf in our fridge exists as its own unique game of tetris due to cereal boxes that are in the fridge. part of it is due to fear of mice smelling food and hoping they wont if its in the fridge (though we dont keep pasta in the fridge for whatever reason). also, part of it is due to that time when punky brewster got stuck in the fridge and couldnt get out once the door shut behind her. it was at that moment that i began to appreciate what a fort knox a fridge can be. our fridge growls when stuffed with things cuz it has to work harder and i like it cuz it affirms to me that it is trying its hardest...just like his cousin did when trying to shut up soleil moon frye. fade out.

I recently learned that the French don't refrigerate their cheese. That is gross.

yes Yes and YES! we had mice last year in our old apartment so we're PSYCHO about not leaving anything out on the counter or cabinets that doesn't seal. we put cereal in the fridge too :)

I usually don't refrigerate any of these things except for berries and a few other fruits. However, now I am keeping pretty much all of my groceries in the refrigerator...there are extenuating kitchen circumstances.

i refrigerate bread because if i don't it will go bad since i live alone and can't eat it fast enough. i refrigerate berries, but not apples or bananas or citrus. i do refrigerate peanut butter, because usually i just use it in recipes rather than spreading it on things, so it doesn't matter if it's unspreadable.

For those with mice problems, what if you put the mice in the fridge and everything else in the cabinets?

Think about it...

bread = yes, it lasts FOREVER in the fridge.

fruit = only berries or fruit that's already ripe and i don't want it to spoil.

pb = never! you can't spread it. i get very upset when the jar says to refrigerate. thanks, but no thanks.

Bread: yes b/c I don't use it fast enough and it will end up molding.

Oh my god I just started refrigerating our bread as we have a sole little mouse who came out and nibbled its evil way into the bag and when i came to get bread for toast all these little bread crumbs flew out. I have seen the mouse it is kind of cute and lives under our dishwasher but i also kind of want to kill it.

PB=NO
FRUIT=YES-chilled fruit=yum except bananas you shouldnt refrigerate them as they release more potassuim and can KILL YOU.
